Why teams use Nodown with Telegram
Send Nodown downtime alerts to any Telegram chat — personal, group, or channel — via a Telegram bot. Alerts arrive instantly on mobile and desktop with full incident details.
Works on any device
Telegram delivers alerts to iOS, Android, and desktop simultaneously. No app switching — your on-call engineer gets paged wherever they are.
Groups and channels
Route alerts to a Telegram group for team-wide visibility, or to a private channel for an audit trail. One Nodown integration per chat.
Free to use
Telegram bots are free and rate limits are generous enough for monitoring alert volumes. No Telegram subscription required.
Instant push notifications
Telegram's push delivery means alerts arrive on your phone within seconds of Nodown confirming a failure — faster than email, comparable to SMS.
How to connect Telegram to Nodown
Set up takes about 2 minutes. No code required.
-
1
Create a Telegram bot
Open Telegram and start a chat with @BotFather. Send /newbot, follow the prompts to name your bot, and copy the API token BotFather provides.
-
2
Get your Chat ID
Start a conversation with your new bot (or add it to a group). Then visit https://api.telegram.org/bot<token>/getUpdates in a browser to find your chat_id in the response JSON.
-
3
Add the integration in Nodown
Go to Alerting → Integrations → New Integration → Telegram. Enter your bot token and chat ID, give the integration a name, and click Test.
-
4
Attach to monitors
Open the monitors you want Telegram alerts for, select the integration under Alert Channels, and save.
Frequently asked questions
- Can I use one bot for multiple Nodown integrations?
- Yes. Create a separate Nodown Telegram integration for each chat ID you want to target (different groups, different personal chats) and reuse the same bot token across all of them.
- What if I want alerts in a Telegram channel rather than a group?
- Add your bot as an admin to the Telegram channel, then use the channel's chat ID (which starts with -100 for channels). The setup is identical to groups.
- Is Telegram secure enough for infrastructure alerts?
- Nodown alerts contain monitor names and failure reasons — no credentials or sensitive data. Telegram's client-server encryption is sufficient for this type of operational notification.
